GenPic is closing

What happened

GenPic started as an experiment: to find out whether a well-built AI portrait service, made in Spain, could pay for itself.

The technical side worked: plenty of portraits generated, 73 styles, five languages, payments with VAT across the EU. The commercial side did not: zero sales. People came in, generated their free portrait and left. Every generation cost AI credits and none of them earned any back.

Keeping something like this running with no revenue only makes sense while you are still learning. We have learned what there was to learn, so we are shutting it down.

If you have a portrait waiting

You can still retrieve it with the email address you used. Files are kept until September 30, 2026 and deleted afterwards, exactly as the privacy policy says.

The code goes open source

Everything behind GenPic — the funnel, the AI provider integrations, the admin panel, content moderation, the email templates — is being released as open source under the MIT licence. If you are building something similar, it will save you months.

We are preparing the public repository. The link will appear here as soon as it is ready.
